Dear LeShawn,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers.

It's almost Christmas 2020!
Let's demonstrate our Love of Neighbor, Love of Children.
COVID Can’t Stop Christmas!
COVID can’t stop Christmas but it will surely be a different holiday season this year. COVID-19 may have closed the Church House and foiled our usual holiday collections but that will not stop us from expressing our Love of Neighbor and Love of Children during this special time of year. I invite you to support two of our partner ministries in the following ways.
Laura’s Home - an outreach of the City Mission that provides a bridge from crisis to stability and self-sufficiency for women and children
-
Pray for the staff and families at Laura’s Home.
-
Write notes of encouragement and support to the ladies of Laura’s Home who are living at the shelter, most with their children (some with as many as 5 or 6). Send them to me in the form of an email and I will print them on Christmas paper to tuck into their Christmas gift bags. Yes, great news – with the help of Amistad Chapel UCC and friends, we have collected enough toiletries, socks, notepads, pens, etc. to make the 65 bags (although not as full as usual).
The Cleveland Veterans Hospital – especially challenged during this pandemic
-
Pray for the patients and staff, including chaplains, at the Cleveland VA Hospital.
-
Write notes of support and appreciation to the VA Hospital chaplains. Their work is difficult, and their devotion is amazing. Send your notes to me in the form of an email and I will print them on Christmas paper.
-
Write notes of support and appreciation to the VA Hospital patients, thanking them for their service and letting them know that they are remembered. Visitation has been extremely limited throughout the pandemic and many have had no contact with the outside world. As above, send your greetings to me in the form of an email and I will print them on Christmas paper. I will send all of the greetings to the hospital.
Deadline: Send all emails to me by November 15, 2020.
If you prefer, you may drop off new toys or new clothes directly at Laura’s Home which is located at 18120 Puritas Ave., Cleveland, OH 44135. New toys and new clothes are needed for children ages 0 – 18 years old.
Donations can be accepted for Christmas at Laura's Home on December 15, 16, 17 between 4pm and 7pm. Due to COVID-19, the home is limiting drop-off times this year.
Your thoughtfulness will be appreciated by so many.

Many of you are familiar with MedWish and in fact, may have even volunteered at its facility during our all staff community volunteer days. I thought you might be interested in the message I received from MedWish below regarding their work supporting Cleveland's health care community during this COVID-19 crisis.
MedWish COVID-19 Update
For more than 25 years, our mission has been to provide medical surplus to desperately underserved communities. The generosity of Northeast Ohio's world-class medical institutions has enabled us to send millions of medical supplies to 114 countries around the world. Now, as these institutions strain under the COVID-19 outbreak, MedWish is stepping up to give back to the local health care community.
With essential equipment to protect front-line health care workers in critically short supply, our team has already:
✔ Coordinated shipments of lifesaving supplies for the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, MetroHealth, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and other health care facilities, donating:47,703 masks
71,850 gloves
9,627 eye shields, bouffant caps, shoe covers, and other PPE
9,285 adult respiratory supplies
7,580 pediatric respiratory supplies
8,960 gowns
2 ventilators
✔ Organized collection efforts for PPE and respiratory supplies from individuals, salons, dentists, veterinarians and other non-essential health care facilities.
✔ Donated non-medical supplies such as toilet paper, soap and hand sanitizer to agencies caring for our community's vulnerable populations.
✔ Responded to initial COVID-19 outbreaks in China, Taiwan, Italy, Mexico and Philippines with shipments amounting to 4,189 lbs. of PPE.
With your donation, we can continue these essential operations and help save lives in Northeast Ohio and around the world. Every donation makes a difference. For more information, please visit

Marcy, thank you so much for sharing this story and important information. I am so grateful to your husband for such amazing service and so very sorry for all of this terrible suffering. Please know that he, and all our veterans remain in my prayers. I will share your information about the bill for sure.
